Alternative act The Home Team return with a twist in its new track “Loud.” It’s the first since the West Coast natives released their popular album Slow Bloom in 2021, a departure from the bad’s previous sound.
“Loud” continues the trajectory of Slow Bloom, a pop punk album at its heart with heavy doses of funk and dance. The new track accelerates the transition, with elements of scene music peppered throughout, like the chorus, which utilizes chunky power chords, and when singer Brian Butcher finds a level of gruffness in his vocals. Speaking of Butcher, he joked on Instagram about learning to dance for the music video.
“But for real, I love the song and am so glad I got break out of my comfort zone,” Butcher wrote.
The excellent music video, directed by Sam Link, features a heavy, retro tint from the costumes to the effects. The video compliments the track, showcasing the band’s—dare I say—loud personality.
While some acts opt to quickly follow a breakout album with singles, The Home Team let Slow Bloom marinate. The guys toured on the album for years, releasing iterations of merch for the songs. “Loud” is a return from what felt like a hiatus, but was anything but.
The single is an aggressive leap forward for the band; an invitation for broader audiences to join the journey. Watch for the next song from The Home Team here.
