Shoegaze and post-punk legends The Jesus and Mary Chain announced early this morning the release of their eighth studio album Glasgow Eyes to celebrate their 40th anniversary as a band. The new album is due out March 8 from Fuzz Club and marks their first album since 2017’s Damage and Joy. “Hopefully people will expect a Jesus and Mary Chain record, and that’s certainly what Glasgow Eyes is,” explains vocalist and guitarist Jim Reid.
“Our creative approach is remarkably the same as it was in 1984, just hit the studio and see what happens. We went in with a bunch of songs and let it take its course. There are no rules, you just do whatever it takes. And there’s a telepathy there—We are those weird not-quite twins that finish each other’s sentences.”
With the announcement of the album comes the release of the first album single and music video, “jamcod.” The new single finds the band with one foot in 1984 and the other in 2024, as they marry guitar-based post-punk with soft electronica. The video combines trippy effects and low-fi video production to create a mood truly fitting of the song. Check out the video below if you don’t have an adverse reaction to strobing lights.
Glasgow Eyes is available for preorder and presave here. Follow The Jesus and Mary Chain on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for future updates.
