The Mountain Goats announced today that they have recorded a new album, Getting Into Knives, set to be released on October 23 through Merge Records.

Getting Into Knives was recorded by John Darnielle, Peter Hughes, Matt Douglas, and Jon Wurster at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, TN. The album reunites the Goats with producer Matt Ross-Spang who also engineered last year’s In League with Dragons

The album is, apparently, partially about getting really into knives, a subject that I never realized anyone gave a fork about. Goes to show what I know. This is what makes Darnielle and his pals artists and me just a some guy who writes for a website.

Check out the first single “As Many Candles As Possible” below.

The Mountain Goats have also announced a new enamel pin design. It looks pretty cute, and you might want one to wear in your house while you listen to the album later this year. You can preorder it here.
