“Fair Chance” is the third single off of It Is What It Is, out via Brainfeeder on April 3. Produced by Sounwave (Kendrick Lamar, TDE), the single takes Thundercat’s releases in a lighter direction for the upcoming LP. Reflecting on the loss of a loved one, in Thundercat’s case, his dear friend Mac Miller, the single hits right in the feels.
Thundercat illuminates how his connections with others will never be the same again. Detailing this feeling, the momentum of the track feels like it’s being dragged onwards to never give up. Keeping a steady beat underneath the mix, it showcases keeping grounded in his new reality.
Stephen Bruner mentioned; “This song is about Mac … when he passed it shook the ground for the artist community. Ty’s a strong dude, and when he heard the song, he knew exactly what it should be. I was there when he recorded it. We talked about what it was, and he did what he felt was right to it, and I love what he did.”
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Thundercat has had to postpone his North American and European shows.
