On February 27, Thundercat dropped the music video for “Dragonball Durag,” the latest single ahead of It Is What It Is, out April 3 via Brainfeeder. Featuring Haim, Kali Uchis, and Quinta Brunson, the video depicts Thundercat going about his business on a particularly beautiful day in Los Angeles when he discovers the Dragonball Durag and puts it on.
“The durag is a superpower, to turn your swag on … it does something; it changes you,” says Thundercat’s Stephen Bruner. “If you have one in the wardrobe, think about wearing it tonight, and it may pop off because you never know what’s going to happen.”
With his durag donned, to the sounds of funky basslines and soulful singing, Thundercat proceeds to put moves on women who seem less than impressed by his advances. All the same, Thundercat is undeterred in enjoying himself, as he grooves his way around Los Angeles.
Thundercat had been set for a 25-date North American tour which has been postponed for now. His previous records include Golden Age of Apocalypse, Apocalypse, and Drunk. Thundercat won a Grammy for collaborating with Kendrick Lamar on the track “These Walls” off the album To Pimp A Butterfly. He also worked with Flying Lotus to compose music for an episode of Atlanta.
