Unearth—the unflagging, undeterred and, of course, unholy metalcore masters—just unveiled plans for a tour touting the release of their eighth record, The Wretched: The Ruinous. The first concert record by Unearth drops May 5 on Century Media.
Trevor Phipps, the Massachusetts band’s frontman, recently touched base with New Noise to provide a sneak peek of the tour, which actually begins the day before the LP arrives.
“These are our first tour of Midwest/West Coast headlining shows in almost five years,” Phipps says. “We’ll play probably three of four songs from the new record but will try to touch on every single album on that tour.”
That’s a lofty ambition, with the sweaty stalwarts having pumped out seven albums since their 2001 debut, The Strings of Conscience. Then again, Unearth aren’t known for short-changing their fans with concerts; when Unearth swung through Japan and Australia in January, they played a hefty 15-song set each night.
Even though Phipps was at home during his lengthy conversation with New Noise, he was already clawing at the walls to return to the road. The 40-something father of two kids is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, the ever-ambitious frontman already has designs on outlasting Ozzy Osbourne, who recently retired from the road.
“I wanna (tour) as long as my body will allow me to,” Phipps says. “I see Ozzy lasted into his early ‘70s. He’s the legend of the genre. I hope to last even longer than him.”
Upon a Burning Body and 156/Silence will support Unearth on their new tour.
