VOSH were formed to explore the combination of influences of Chris Moore and Josephine Olivia. Moore had previously worked in Repulsion, Coke Bust, and The Rememberables, while Olivia had experiences working with Blacksage.
Their influences range from Bauhaus to early Ministry to Sisters of Mercy to Zounds to Killing Joke to latter day titans Nine Inch Nails. The sound of Vosh can be related to “synth pop” or “darkwave,” but their compositions ensure that there is more to it than those generic terms. The band have recently released their critically acclaimed debut LP Vessel.

According to the press release:
“Stretching across 12 original tracks, VOSH’s debut album ‘Vessel’ doesn’t just slither, it bangs and bursts with explosive energy, juxtaposing an icy goth cool with red hot heightened drama and muscle. Vocalist, lyricist and frontperson Josephine Olivia is the musical centerpiece for VOSH, mixing the dreamy and ethereal approach of Hope Sandoval or Alison Shaw (Cranes), the versatility of David Bowie, and the commanding power of greats like Siouxsie, Diamanda Galas or Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance). Olivia’s vocal sails above it all, presenting haunting melody after haunting melody in a dramatic and forceful manner that nods to voices from goth, dream pop, indie, and elements of traditional pop music.”
Vessel was recorded in the greater Washington, D.C. area, where Moore and Olivia share their residence. Longtime collaborator/producer/engineer Kevin Bernsten from Developing Nations in Baltimore assisted on the mix. Magnus Lindberg (Tribulation, Russian Circles, Lucifer, Hellacopters, Frida Hyvönen, etc) mastered the album. The band have recently completed their “Vessel” Tour 2023.
