For over the past decade, Pennsylvania-based singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Adam McIlwee has been creating music that’s as unpredictable as it is impressive. Midnight at the Castle Moorlands marks the first time that Adam has self-produced a record. The newest single is an enveloping cut of pillowy synths showcasing the expertly blended mix of mystical, mundane, and melancholy that’s made Wicca Phase Springs Eternal who they are.
Adam McIlwee on “Venti Iced Americano”:
“’Venti Iced Americano’ is a depiction of in-between moments and places, where time is both rapid and heavily delayed, and feelings are both forward-looking and nostalgic. For visual references, see ‘Westworld’ Season 2, episode 10 (‘The Passenger’) and issue #20 of Marvel Comics’ ‘Cable’ (1993).”
Last year, Adam released a self-titled, full-length, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, which brought a cosmic scope to his ever-evolving sound. The album has barely been released before he was back to writing more new material. By the time it was released, it came to be considered as a follow-up. Since then, Adam knew he wanted to fully self-produce it. Whilst the self-titled album was widescreen and maximal, Midnight at Castle Moorlands pulls things back with the goal of an unexpected kind of naturalism. The album, which was recorded with Matt Schimeflenig, is imbued with a warm, tangible grit that compliments the mystical settings and earnest feelings that are lyrically explored.
