The one and only Wicca Phase Springs Eternal (aka Pennsylvania-based singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Adam McIlwee) released his EP Midnight at the Castle Moorlands last week, and he’s back with one more early single, the shimmering “My Name is the Endless Night” released on October 25, and available now on all streaming platforms.

The forthcoming EP finds Mcllwee dabbling in self-production for the first time, allowing him to make some of his most fully-realized and immersive music yet. The recently released track, “My Name is the Endless Night,” provides the combination of thumping beats, shimmering synths and satisfying melancholy that McIlwee excels unlike any other artist/producer.
Reflecting on the song’s combination of mystical and modern, Mcllwee says, “’My Name is the Endless Night’ is a smoke-and-mirrors song. The magic worked and now it’s showing up in the most mysterious and deceptive ways: the frost on the grass, the fleeting wind, the passing fog, etc. All of this is sung from the perspective of the ‘rider in black,’ the ‘dark prince on the mountain.'”
With his background playing in indie-rock’s idolized Tigers Jaw and his founding of Gothboiclique (wildly successful on SoundCloud), Mcllwee has never stopped defying genre boundaries while constantly adding to his extensive creative catalog.
The upcoming EP is further testament to his creative caliber, effortless blending an unexpected kind of naturalism within WPSE’s pointedly supernatural world. Content is not the only aspect Mcllwee explored artistically.
“I wanted to make the most organic sounding album I could while using electronic production,” he notes. “I’m always trying to figure out how to immerse the listener even more–whether that’s sonically or lyrically, and for these songs that meant reining things in and grounding them. I didn’t want to keep getting bigger and bigger, I wanted something looser and more lo-fi.”
Pushing himself lyrically was a priority on the release of this single, along with the upcoming EP. Exploring themes complimenting of the mystical settings and earnest feelings promoted on the songs.
With such an interesting and experimental take on a modern day emo-indie-rap fusion, don’t miss out on this release.
