The UK’s jazz scene is about to see a seismic shift with the re-emergence of the boundary-pushing, future-soul outfit Yakul. They’re set to put out their second album, Gravity Pulls You Home, on August 2 via yada yada.

The new album is set to serve as a reminder of the healing power that music and creativity can provide. After a darker period of uncertainty, the band escaped to a writing retreat in the wilderness, blocking out the noise and finding a space where they could work uninhibited and rediscover the magic and energy that first brought them together. “We cultivated a safe space where no idea was wrong and every suggestion was valid and had its place,” they say.
In the process, the four friends have built upon this trust as a foundation, a way to trust in both the process and each other. Combining the use of innovative production techniques and old reel-to-reel tape machines, the album struck the perfect balance between sonic experimentation and analog warmth. In addition to all of this, it offers a valuable message to those who need to hear it: “To those feeling lost; the biggest and most important parts of your life are drawing you in. You need only relinquish the need to control it, and gravity pulls you home.”
The lead single “Start Here” was just the beginning of Yakul welcoming the world into a new world of sonic adornation with an undeniable British edge. The stunning harmonies, profound groove and outstanding porgressions and blend of styles have placed them at the forefront of an explosive new era of future-soul. The second single, “In The Fire,” commands attention with a rich tapestry of soundscapes guided by soulful vocals and intricate instrumental arrangements.
