Atlanta rockers O’Brother are about to head out on tour with the Dillinger Escape Plan on October 12th, but before they do they’ve shared this amazing cover version of Portishead’s “Silence” from that group’s brilliant album Third. Earlier this year O’Brother released their third full-length album Endless Light. The band nails the Portishead aesthetic as it makes the song’s sound both heavier and darker than the original.

Vocalist Tanner Merritt says, “We’ve been talking about doing a Portishead cover for years. They are a huge influence on us, but different enough stylistically that we believed it could be appropriate. Third is collectively one of our favorite records and I can say personally that the bookends of this record (the opening and closing track) are my favorite. So for our first time ever recording a cover, we decided to do two. Silence is part one of this two part series that we self-recorded in our rehearsal space for shiggles, and we had a blast learning and recreating and paying homage to one of the best bands.”

Atlanta quintet O’Brother is thrilled to be joining The Dillinger Escape Plan on their final tour this fall as main support. The 35-city tour will kick off in Baltimore, MD this week on October 12th and hit most major cities before wrapping up back on the East Coast in mid-November. O’Brother is touring in support of their latest full-length Endless Light.

The band has also announced their return to Atlanta, where they’ll play this year’s The Stuffing on November 23rd, marking their first hometown show in support of the new release. This year’s lineup includes curators Manchester Orchestra plus Citizen, Into It. Over It., All Get Out, and more. Tickets and more information can be found here:
