Petrol Girls Stream ‘Some Thing’ EP

Petrol Girls have released the stream for their upcoming EP Some Thing (listen below).

Last month, Petrol Girls have released a new video for the track “Slug” (watch below). “Slug” can be heard on this EP set to be released on February 19th on Panic State Records.

The band comments:

“‘Slug’ was written in January 2015 and was initially about depression and alienation. Over the past year however the meaning of the song developed, particularly after Ren began spending time in the unofficial refugee camp in Calais. These are the walls these are the words, I can see them forming blocks around my days. Depression, alienation, borders – somehow it all connects in a problematic, messy way. The video, put together by Andrew Northop, loosely draws some of these ideas together, using the technique of datamoshing to emphasize ideas of alienation and distance. Some of the footage was taken on Ren’s phone during her time in Calais and while she travelled across the border between France and the UK. The beginnings of Ren’s art project, cutting up national flags and rearranging them by color also features. The way the video collages together different ideas reflects the way the song was written in the first place, and maybe it’s this loose approach that allows both the song and video to retain political potency, demanding questions of those who encounter them.”

Petrol Girls are about to tour across Europe promoting their new record and stoked to spread the word.
