UK’s The Darkness strutted into town with their unique blend of classic rock, high-pitched vocals and comedy all rolled into one show. Hitting the stage between fog machine blasts and strobe light flashes a mustached Justin Hawkins led the band through an exciting set of The Darkness classics old and new. The band consisting of original members Dan Hawkins and Frankie Poullain were joined by Roger Taylor’s son Rufus Taylor on drums rocking hard behind Justin’s high kicks and costume changes.
The crowd was engaged from the start clapping and singing along at full volume. They were treated to Justin’s many interactions with the fans including wearing clothing thrown onto the stage from the audience.
The night was full of high points as well as high notes even doing the song “Friday Night” as requested by a fan close to the stage. They ended the set with “Get Your Hands off My Woman” from their first album and encored with (what else) their iconic hit “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”. After two years of no shows thankfully there is the Darkness at the end of the tunnel.
