Video Premiere: A Day Without Love – “Nonsense”

a day without love

New Noise Magazine is bringing forth the incredibly aware video premiere for the song “Nonsense” by A Day Without Love. The song has a lo-fi feel to it with it’s simple structure, being an individual and their instrument. Harmonized vocals come to play every now and again, giving “Nonsense” a bit more dynamics to play with. A Day Without Love bring the song to a better light with the music video, showing the apathetic feel towards a powerful figure, outlining the horrors. “Nonsense” is off of Diary, which will be released April 27th.

“Nonsense is a song addressing the cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy in America. Either you are in the left and you are judging people the same way that Republicans do. Or you are in the right and you are too stubborn to change. Or maybe you are somewhere in the middle and afraid to admit your own failures and roots of socioeconomic and sociopolitical privilege. No one is perfect, this song is about the finger pointing and blaming that people do to each other while refusing to take accountability for their privilege. The video is an artistic display of this dissonance and trying to come into terms with your own social and political identity instead of judging others and passing judgement on their moral and political inventory.”

Philadelphia-based musician Brian Walker, who plays under the stage name A Day Without Love and recently released a session with Day Trotter, will be releasing the follow-up to 2016’s Solace in 2018. He will be releasing the albums first single, “Nonsense,” on January 19 in anticipation of the full album.

“Nonsense” is a song that describes the cognitive dissonance and hypocritical conflict of people who advocate for social justice without experiencing injustice. ADWL’s Walker was inspired to write this song after hanging with new acquaintances and being typecasted as “Black Brian. “I was tired of being racially profiled by people of different races and being lied to. I met many people who said they were advocates for equality, but their actions showed otherwise.

Walker also directed the video for “Nonsense,” which was shot on an Android cellphone and stars actress and model Lauren Chewning. The video works to further emphasize the themes of the song itself, according to Walker.

Comprised of 24 tracks, Walker says the new album works as a mixtape for his project and provides space for him to explore different musical and lyrical themes of race, class and technology that he addressed in Solace.
