Here’s a brand-new video from Jonny Couch, who just announced his debut full-length, Mystery Man, out August 2 via Damaged Sofa Records.

A former punk drummer, the Brooklyn-based Couch reinvented himself as a solo artist in 2016 via the shockingly strong Animal Instinct EP. Animal Instinct introduced the world to his soulful, synth-laced pop, and this album is a continuation of that sound.

“My favorite bands are Cheap Trick and Buzzcocks, but this is more of a personal record than a band effort, highly influenced by power pop solo artists like Nick Lowe,” he says. “Also, some of my favorite New Romantic artists, such as Roxy Music, Duran Duran, Psychedelic Furs… There is a neo-noir theme throughout the album too, starting with the title track, ‘Mystery Man.’ I am a big fan of neo-noir films like Drive, Body Heat, and most of Brian DePalma’s movies.”
