We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Samsara’s music video for their song “Karma” (watch it below). The track is taken from the band’s debut EP Bloodlines, which is available now through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Bandcamp, as well as other major digital distributors and streaming services.
“‘Karma’ is a song about a person in my life that I will never stop loving. As negative as the song may seem lyrically it’s the exact opposite. That certain person that came in my life and I viewed as complete perfection had the unique ability to obliterate every wall I have ever built and made me want to truly feel love again. The sad side of that was just the simple fact that we were both looking into different styles of life.
The quote ‘I see you standing alone within the crowd’ is because I want to constantly be there for her but I never want her to have to see me achieve or succeed in what I wish too. At the end of the day for the ones we love we should want them to be happy none the less. At the end of the song it repeats what sounds like ‘karma, welcome to the dark’ but it’s not darkness as in hatred but the darkness of never fully understanding someone’s potential and drive to accomplish what they want but to be left alone and never have to view that and later regret it.
In the end, I believe the greatest form of karma is accomplishing everything you’ve wanted, striving for it and leaving the person who has doubted you in the dark of it all.”
“The house featured in this video is the house we all lived in for two years while we wrote our Bloodlines EP. Where we ate, slept, sweat, bled… we couldn’t say good-bye without paying tribute to a place so dear to us. This is where we struggled through everything and where everything we went through as a band took place. The room in the video is where we practiced and poured out hearts out into these songs.”
Samsara Interview
How has being from Yuma, AZ influenced you and impacted you as a band?
Being from Yuma, AZ has impacted us musically because we had to push ourselves to get better and out of our comfort zone. We have a great scene but it isn’t as big as the bigger cities scene since we are in a small town. We had to work twice as hard as a band to get to venture out and get people to recognize us and to get new faces to shows.
What drew you towards being a band in the metalcore genre?
What made us want to be in a heavier/ metal core band was the type of bands we were listening to at the time! Funny thing is we actually started this band as an acoustic act, the moved it to a cover band covering A day to remember, all time low and stuff like that. Then somehow we started writing our own music and it was toward the heavy/ metal core side.
How did Samsara originally come together?
We all actually all met in jazz band in high school. We became really close friends and started this band together. Over the years we changed a couple members but the lineup we have now is the lineup we’ve had for a couple years now. We are all really close friends that just wanted to play music.
Can you explain the concept behind the Bloodlines EP?
The EP was less of a solution and more of a starting point for me. It hasn’t fixed any problems, but opened up a new outlet to deal with them. Instead of trying to drown them out night after night writing and performing them caused me to accept those things versus trying to hide them. Struggles of self doubt, depression, losing people I’ll never have gotten the chance to say goodbye, and being an addict. The words I write and scream are a constant reminder that my problems are ones I can’t escape no matter how much I try. Slowly the music we write is helping me to face myself, nothing more and nothing less.
How long did the writing process for Bloodlines take?
The writing process of Bloodlines took at least 6-7 months to write. While writing we were playing a lot of shows and trying to get the EP all put together all while working full time jobs. The recording process was a two week thing. We stayed in San Antonio, Texas to record with Cory Brunnemann.
What did Cory Brunnemann bring to the table for you as a producer?
Cory Brunnemann as a producer was awesome he brought a lot to the table. He would come up with little details in songs that we would of never have came up with. He pushed us out of our comfort zone to try new things and in the end it worked out for the best. He’s an awesome producer and can’t wait to work with him again.
What can fans expect from you in terms of new music?
In May during our tour we stop in San Antonio, Texas again to record a single and an acoustic song with Cory Brunnemann again and fans and people can expect a hard hitting single. We will still have elements from bloodlines like the heaviness and catchy choruses but more of a mature sound from us. We feel this new music we have will spark people’s attention more and it’s probably some of the best music we’ve written. We are always pushing ourselves as musicians to write the best music we can.
