Priding themselves on being Manchester, U.K.’s premiere groove-laden stoner/doom metal band, Barbarian Hermit tap into the eclectic nature of psychedelia to supplement their cripplingly heavy doom riffs. Now they’re gearing up for the release of their new album Mean Sugar, out August 2 from APF Records.
Today, Barbarian Hermit are debuting the video for their latest crushing, heavy doom metal track, the title track off their upcoming album, “Mean Sugar.”
“Mean Sugar is about growing up in a northern town,” explains vocalist Simon Scarlett. “It comes across as boastful and full of bravado, but in reality it’s precarious and delicate. In the music video, I’ve blended local scenes shot over the last couple of months, as well as snippets from Barbarian Hermit outings. Some of the other music videos we’ve done have been gregarious and fun, often using green screen. With the Mean Sugar video, I wanted to create something to contrast those, no green screen, straight footage, but I didn’t want to lose the trippy visual aesthetic. Still striking, very local and relevant to us as a band, I hope this video gives viewers another glimpse what is being Barbarian Hermit.”
With some classic, hard-rocking riffs that give way to bone-crunching doom metal, this is about as accessible as doom can get. Their video uses a lot of colors and overlays to produce a psychedelic visual landscape and perfectly matches the tone of this stoner metal track. Check out the video below.
Mean Sugar is out August 2, and you can preorder it from APF Records. Follow Barbarian Hermit on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for future updates.
