Dauber are the new band by former Screaming Females bassist Mike Abbate alongside Quinn Murphy and Jenna Fairey. Creating a style that’s pop, primal, and carefully constructed at the same time, their debut album Falling Down perfectly encapsulates a snapshot of a fresh and vital new band finding their sound. The album comes out on Friday as a collaborative release between Dromedary Records, Recess Records, and State Champion Records, but you can hear the whole thing here before it comes out.
“We wanted to create an album that preserves the energy of a live, loud, loose, and energetic band playing in a basement,” says Abbate about the album. “You can hear the speakers rattling on our half-broken amps. It’s a pretty accurate representation of what Dauber does.
“Sure, the lyrics might render this album a bit of a self-deprecating downer, but this is a celebration of the catharsis of rock music. I’m just singing what’s on my mind,” he continues. “Just because my primary creative outlet in Screaming Females came to an end last year does not mean that I am done making music. I am a musical person, and I am going to keep creating. I don’t see that changing”
