Hot Hail! is back with their full album. We previously featured this goth/darkwave solo project of Billy Sigil out of Seattle, Washington for our Today’s New Noise segment because we absolutely adored how its “big, haunting melodies and pulsing dance beats make for a mesmerizing track full of a particular dark beauty.” That was an early taste of what’s to come, and today the project is debuting the full length album ALL THE BLOOD YOU WANTED. With all the elements that made ’80s goth-pop beautiful, mesmerizing, and infectious, this album is exactly the kind of music you want to hear starting up in the sweaty haze of your favorite goth club.
“The name ‘Hot Hail!’ is a reference to Emperor Ming’s world-destroying weather machine in the 1980 camp classic ‘Flash Gordon’ movie,” explains Sigil, “and that kind of encapsulates the ethos of this project – something unnatural and apocalyptic that still retains a certain quality of glamour and winking at itself in the the midst of all the horror. All of my favorite goth / post-punk bands combined the darkness of their music and subject matter with a really strong pop sensibility, and that is what drives my songwriting. Even while tackling subjects like societal collapse, gender identity, mental illness, and the acceptance of our inevitable death, my hope is to create something genuine, cathartic, and extremely catchy.”
