Hardcore band NEKS are ready to take you to the point of no return. Working remotely from across Salt Lake City, Denver, New Jersey, and Spain, the band are made up of members of Daytrader, Crime In Stereo, Capsule, RILE, and Spirits. We featured them recently on our Today’s New Noise column with their debut digital single. Now the band is back with their debut album Point of No Return, which is out now.
With a subtlety and intelligence that resembles post-hardcore, NEKS’ hardcore style benefits from that intelligence and creates a unique and compelling sound. “We spent a week together at Sound Acres in New Jersey in January 2023 with no real idea what this band was going to sound like,” says band member Matt Mascarenas. “We just wanted an excuse to hang out. We ended up writing all the songs on the spot and Derrick tracked drums while we were in the same place, then spent the rest of the year recording everything else remotely. Wes and I did guitars at Archive Recordings in Salt Lake City. Robert tracked bass in Denver, and Wes re-amped them. Gary did vocals and mixed the record back at Sound Acres, where it all started.”
