Finnish noise rock duo NYOS are sharing their new album, an aptly named “celebration of the present” called Celebration, and you can listen to it in full right here at New Noise.
The duo combines that danceable grooves of Battles with the essence of bands like Sonic Youth, along with the yearning electric melodies of And So I Watch You From Afar. The album acts as a defiantly joyful, loud, and festive affair, and a promising cure for the times we live in.
The band began when guitarist Tom Brooke left his hometown and moved from Britain to Finland in pursuit of his dream, building his own recording studio. He soon met drummer Tuomas Kainulainen, who had solid footing in the local punk scene. The two instantly connected and eventually met up for some initial practice sessions, which produced 2015’s Vltava, a 26-minute long, six-part instrumental rock opus.
Celebration shows the artistry and synergy the two musicians have built and shared over the past seven years. Much of the material was written before the pandemic and acts as a reflection of life before lockdown, overflowing with infectious grooves and melodies.
The duo are also setting off on a fresh tour. Check out those dates below:
