Anaheim, California’s blackened metal act, Private Prisons, is following up on the unique sound of their debut album, Extrication, with their sophomore album Excommunication, which they are debuting with us today. Despite having individual tracks, the album is essentially one, long piece that runs the genre gamut from doom to drone metal to hardcore punk to black metal to post-metal.
That’s a lot to pack in to just 40 minutes, but that’s part of what makes this album more of a journey, taking you through peaks and valleys, moving from one genre to the next, all the while forming one cohesive artistic statement that covers themes of solitude, imprisonment, exile, and ultimately the removal of human beings.
