Album Premiere: Velour Academy – ‘Chisme’

Velour Academy are a pop-punk band founded in 2005 by songwriter/bassist Jamil Kassimali and songwriter/vocalist Shannon Martinez, who traded demos while going to school across the country from each other. Their latest album, Chisme, is out June 4.

New Noise are proud to premiere Chisme in full below:

Tracks like “Soda & Juice” and “Macrifoam,” were revived from those early demos for their new album. After releasing demos with just these two members, the band expanded its line-up, adding drummer Matt Calderon and backup vocalist/keyboard player Itzel Palacios.

Under this formation, they recorded their first formal album, Ooze, in October 2017. Since then, the band has performed in the Los Angeles area as well as festivals around the country.

On the release of Chisme, Martinez states:

“We first started recording the album in Los Angeles, but then started it all over again in Oakland, which is fitting because our musical hearts started growing out of the bay area.

The songs touch on many different life experiences and emotions: a love story, a friendship song, feel-good songs, a sad song about struggling with personal demons, from spooky to carefree.

We wanted to make something unique and refreshing, and we hope anyone who listens gets a lot of enjoyment out of it.”
