Southern glam rock artist Cody Belew is an artist you may remember from when he made it into the top eight artists on NBC’s hit reality show The Voice. That exposure earned him spots opening for the likes of Delta Rae, Florida Georgia Line, Rascal Flatts, and more, as well as the opportunities to write with award winning artists like Deana Carter, Mike Reid, and Tina Sellers. His debut, self-titled EP helped make a name for him with lead single “Rodeo” that ended up in regular rotation on CMT, as well as his cover of Dolly Parton’s “Here You Come Again,” which was praised for his reinvention of a classic.
Today, we’re spotlighting his debut LP I Did It For Love which was released on Friday. Influenced by everything from Freddie Mercury to The Judds, the album offers up a unique blend of country flare and rock ‘n’ roll flamboyance to create an album with one foot in country, one foot in rock, and both of those feet tapping along to the infectious rhythm. It’s already produced a number of well-received singles including the driving piano-pop of “Horseshoes & Hand Grenades” and his soulful ballad “Love Song to the South” which was released as a single alongside the album. “Love Song for the South” balances Belew’s pride for the South with the region’s dark past and checkered history, creating an honest tribute to a complicated topic.
