Track Premiere: del-Toros – ‘Groinswab’

del-Toros

Dutch experimentalists del-Toros never release the same record twice. Since forming in 2008, their writing style consistently builds upon a cinematic developmental arc of rock music subgenres and instrumentations heard in their prior releases.

Their forthcoming album, Stainless, continues this practice and is set for release in January 2025 through Down At The Nightclub Records. To commemorate the announcement, the quartet release “Groinswab” as the first single, with the band’s co-founder/guitarist, Guido Bruin, directing its accompanying video. Bruin explains the direction of the video’s assembly and structure below.

Music and film are my primary fuel in life, but somehow, I never really managed to create a video myself for my band.  But since our upcoming album Stainless is all soundtrack waiting for the film, I decided to start the real low profile with just some random shots, and when that worked out, the four of us were just into it and shot the whole thing in two days. It turned out as sort of a dream sequence, a la Buñuel or Lynch, but essentially, I looked for the Anton Corbijn feel and also Dutch filmmaker Alex van Warmerdam.”

Stainless marks a new chapter unfolding for del-Toros, who’ve grown into a quartet after being a power trio since inception, with the addition of keyboardist Dylan Does. Recording sessions were held over two days in early 2024 at Galloway Studios in Nijmegen, with Sebastiaan van Bijlevelt behind the production helm.  Co-founder/bassist Sicco Roukema gives his take on what makes this record stand out from the others in their catalog.

“We felt the new music we wrote required a different approach and studio; it’s much more cinematic than our last album. Beforehand, we had never worked with Sebastian before, but his views fit our vibe, and his studio is amazing. He pushed our limits, which was great. Not working with Peter van Elderen in the studio this time was bizarre. However, since Peter is a graphic designer from the origin, we asked him to do the artwork, so he’s still on the team.”

“Groinswab” will be streaming on all digital platforms come November 8. For all the latest news on del-Toros, follow them on Instagram or visit their website.
