Canadian Rifle are set to release a ferocious new three-song EP. For almost 20 years, the Chicago punk outfit have been consistently releasing their own, unique brand of punishing punk rock on the best labels around, finally finding a home for their new seven-inch at Rad Girlfriend Records.

The songs are urgent, melodic and heavy and overflowing with both confidence and desperation. Simply, the record sounds like a runaway freight train that could derail at any time, but somehow manages to stay roughly on the tracks. The lyrical content is somewhat abstract, touching on the bleakness of shallow human interaction, hanging on by a self-inflicted thread, running on fumes, and trying to move forward from mistakes and frames of mind that carry the behavior of skirting the edge that most would more than likely not venture into.

Fans of Dillinger 4, Off With Their Heads, and Hot Water Music are sure to find a lot to like here.

“(Our new EP) stares directly into the void and that seems fine.  It’s just like you; beautiful, ugly, empty and urgent.  It’s just like you,” says the band’s Tim Murphy.
