EP Premiere: ChumHuffer – Slaughterhouse Five

ChumHuffer

New York punk band ChumHuffer have been dubbed “sharkcore” for their furious blend of hardcore punk with metal and surf riffs. But more than just a sonic assault of punk noise, the band have also developed a reputation for thought-provoking lyrics that marry perfectly with their aggressive musical style. Building off of the success of their previous releases Orgy of Hate and Blood in the Water, the band are releasing their latest seven-inch EP Slaughterhouse Five tomorrow on the band’s own label, DWY Records, but now you get to hear it a day early exclusively at New Noise.

From the opening guitar riff of the title track, this album kicks off with a bang and continues that blistering hardcore blast for five short-and-sweet hardcore tracks. Lyrically, “Slaughterhouse” serves as both a harsh rejection of brutal warfare tactics as well as a tribute to the EP’s namesake, the novel Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, complete with the famous refrain of “So it goes.”

“Miami” becomes a bold statement of individuality that continues the breakneck pace of the opening track before “Ways” slows things down with it’s even-paced opening, then launches back into an all-out hardcore anthem of the people against the system. The whole thing closes on the brief flash-in-the-pan called “Burning” which closes us out with the EP’s shortest track with some of the most personal and introspective lyrics on an otherwise socio-political seven-inch. This is bound to become a favorite of any hardcore fan that checks it out, so listen to the seven-inch below.

You can preorder the album directly from the band here. Follow ChumHuffer on Facebook and Twitter for future updates.
