Philadelphia-based shoegaze act Soft No are made up of life-long friends Scott Signorino, Allie Lannutti, Austin Lotz, Jon Martello, and Kate Lowe. Not only have they known each other since childhood, they have a long history of playing together in bands as well. Started in February 2023 as a collaboration between Signorino and Lotz, the band grew to a five-piece that incorporates all of its members’ stories.
Today, Soft No are debuting their self-titled EP which is coming out on Abandon Everything Records. “This record really became about stepping out of our comfort zones,” explains Signorino. “Firstly, we set out for the band to have a specific sound, and it wound up being something completely different than originally intended. Moreover, almost everyone is playing a different instrument than they usually do.
“The five of us have grown up together; we’ve shared the same music scene together, and have run in the same circles for years now—finishing these five songs cemented a bond between all of us—We feel that bond is evident in the music.
“As musicians, when the music you make gets shared with the world, it sort of ceases to be yours and instead belongs to whoever listens to it – we’re all really proud of what we made on this recording and couldn’t be happier to share it with all of you.”
With its big, swirling guitars and dreamy melodies, this is a classic record with the spirit of ’90’s shoegaze. Check out the EP below.
