Podcast Spotlight: ‘Cult & Culture Podcast Episode 58 feat. Everything is Terrible’

Cult & Culture Podcast

Cult & Culture Podcast proudly present their Episode 58, which features Nick and Dimitri, the two members of the absurdist found footage art collective Everything Is Terrible.

Watch the video here:

The discussion centers on DoggieWoggiez! PoochieWoochiez!, which is Everything Is Terrible’s hour-long tribute to The Holy Mountain and was created entirely from found footage of dogs. The conversation also refers to the Dadaist and surrealist nature of their performances and how they operate almost like a punk band, such as touring in a van, selling merchandise, and utilizing their audio and visual collages while performing as a spectacle.

They also discuss how they have built a unique reputation through unconventional means, such as collecting thousands of Jerry Maguire VHS tapes. They discuss the connection between nostalgia and fascism, the political perspective of their work, and how they bring humor to their work to balance the unsettling weight of the footage they work with.

Cult and Culture began as a short segment created by Justin Pearson, who is an internationally renowned musician, record label owner of Three One G Records, author, and actor. Pearson is best known as the bassist for Dead Cross, The Locust, and Some Girls, as well as the vocalist for Deaf Club, Swing Kids, and Planet B. Pearson teamed up with producer and bandmate Luke Henshaw to expand the idea into a full-fledged podcast, which is now recorded at his own PengOne Studios in San Diego.
