Split Premiere: Wrong War/Compulsion – Split LP

Wrong War and Compulsion

Wrong War and Compulsion are a pair of fairly new Chicago hardcore acts that are taking their scenes by storm. Compulsion was formed in 2023 from members of Los Crudos, Charles Bronson, Punch in The Face, Compressions, and Full On, drawing their inspiration the more abrasive bands on the SST and Touch & Go rosters. Meanwhile, Wrong War are helmed by Council Records’ head Matthias Weeks and features members of Current, Calvary, Ottawa, The Phenoms, and Salvo Beta, drawing influence from the Detroit, Chicago, and DC hardcore scenes.

Today, by their powers combined, Wrong War and Compulsion are debuting their split LP, which happens to be the 50th release of Council Records. With echoes of the ghosts of hardcore past, both bands give blistering performances that pay tribute to the best that hardcore history has to offer.

“It feels fitting that the label’s official 50th release is a split LP,” says Weeks, “as that format was instrumental in launching the label back in 1993. Four years ago, I didn’t expect to even reach a 26th release, yet here we are—and I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to still create and share music. Everything on this LP, from the bands and recording to the mastering, artwork, and production, was crafted in Chicago, making it a true reflection of the label’s home.”
