Pulling from elements of emo and blending it with the extreme of hardcore punk and metal, Phoenix’s Bite the Hand becomes a genre-bending all-out emotional scream-fest that dishes out intensity but also offers up some powerful emotional catharsis. They’ve shared stages with the likes of Greet Death, Drug Church, Norma Jean, Holy Fawn, Slow Crush, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Have Mercy, Belmont, Salt Creek, and Ridgeway and are dedicated to raising awareness and support for organizations dedicated to women’s rights, planned parenthood, victims of domestic abuse, suicide prevention, and other important causes.
Today, Bite the Hand are debuting their latest single, “TV’s On.” With a simple premise of addressing the anxiety one feels upon heading to bed, it takes on a deeper meaning about the anxieties of late-stage capitalism and the crippling effects of anxiety disorder. Stepping outside of the types of emotions typically dealt with in emo music, the song is a harshly real examination of how devastating anxiety can be.
“A song about the harsh realities of laying in bed with crippling anxiety,” say the band about the single. “Turning on the TV in a dark room can always bring some sort of comfort.”
