Track Premiere: Bleak – ‘The Wave’

Bleak - The Wave

Finnish band Bleak has gone through a number of starts, stops, and transformations since they were formed in the late-’90s by frontman Caleb Daniel Lit. Lit was the core creative force of the band as songwriter, vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and producer. But, after a guitarist left the band and the band made two poor choices to fill the role in the band, Lit shut down Bleak and moved on to new projects. Lit moved on to his next two projects, Fireal and Inkakai, although the boundaries between these bands and Bleak remains hazy as Lit was the creative force behind all of them. Wikipedia, for example, considers Bleak, Fireal, and Inkakai to be the same band that’s changed names over the years. Lit reunited with the original Bleak guitarist in 2018 under the name Sons of She’ol, but by 2024 they had reformed Bleak with a new lineup.

Bleak - The Wave

Today, Bleak are debuting their big comeback single “The Wave,” a driving rock song with classic hard rock elements that makes for a stadium-style alt-rock rager. Revitalized and with a new sense of urgency, the reformed Bleak find themselves with the experience of a veteran band and the renewed energy of a brand new rock band. Make no mistake about it, this band is back in a very big way.

“‘The Wave’ is us going straight back to our roots — no overthinking, no label noise, just raw, original Bleak,” says Lit. “It’s what we are when no one’s telling us what to be, and we trust our own instincts.”
