Track Premiere: Daniel Danger – ‘Overpass’

Daniel Danger

Today, Landland Colportage announce a special vinyl pressing of The Casper Mask, a deeply intimate and cathartic return to the microphone by noted illustrator and songwriter, Daniel Danger, due out January 5, with the premiere of ‘Overpass.’

Danger have spent the last many years as a member of emotional hardcore legends The Saddest Landscape (Topshelf, Iodine Recordings), Some Stranger (Robotic Empire), and previously fronted The Hue of Two (Milkcrate Merch) and A City Safe From Sea (Magic Bullet Records), though The Casper Mask returns him to the messy imperfect confessional DIY home recordings of his twenties.

The Casper Mask—a vessel to contain the fears and anxiety of a poorly contained neurological disorder colliding with the news of an incoming daughter—is about learning to ask for and accept help, acceptance, and honesty of the difficult places we find ourselves, and that true love is an ambulance that can carry and heal us.

A genre-manic series of whip pans, Daniel threads himself across noisy drum machines, banjos, violently distorted guitars, country jamboree freakouts, blooming horns, and disintegrating thrift store keyboards, himself a wavering unsure voice. Guests include John Bradley (DADS), Rebecca Joy (Achings), and Moe Watson (Shai Hulud).

Originally made as a private press lathe LP, quietly recorded in Daniel’s home across months with renowned engineer Jeremy Mendicino and then gifted in surprise to only a handful of his friends and collaborators in 2021, Landland Colportage enlisted Dave Gardner to fully remaster the record and expanded the release with a new illustration by Danger and fully screenprinted and hand-assembled deluxe packaging to finally send it out into the world. It will be available in three limited-edition vinyl variants and on digital and streaming platforms. Preorder it here.
