New Hampshire’s Ezra Cohen first made a name for himself as frontman for the punk band Notches. His solo work focuses on pop rock with a touch of country twang. His new album with Ezra Cohen & the Big City Band, called Worse for the Wear, is out on October 25 from Dead Broke Rekerds.
Today, Cohen is debuting the new single off the upcoming album called “Kick Back.” With grandiose pop hooks in a down-to-earth alt-country-meets-pop-rock style, it’s a feel-good track that’s likely to leave you smiling.
“Kick Back was the first song we learned for this record,” explains Cohen. “It was originally going to be for a previous band of mine, and we repurposed it. It’s a song about watching friends be stagnant and get stuck in unhealthy cycles. Trying to help, but also knowing that people have to want to change their life to escape those cycles and that sometimes all you can do is be there as a friend for your friends.”
