Track Premiere: Faerie Ring – ‘Lover’

Emerging out of a smoky haze in Evansville, Indiana, comes stoner/doom metal band Faerie Ring with their upcoming, electrifying LP, Weary Traveler. Channeling their love for bombastic riffs, soaring vocals, high fantasy, and science fiction into a mystical and weed-inspired romp recorded by Alex Kercheval (Coven), Weary Traveler will see its release through King Volume Records on April 14.

EU distribution for Weary Traveler can be found through Kozmik Artifactz here, and the “Endless Color” vinyl variant collaboration with Wise Blood Records can be purchased here.

With the band already unleashing two singles off of the record: The fuzzy whopper “Silver Man In The Sky” and the cruising riffer “Never Rains At Midnite,” New Noise are excited to unveil the third tantalizing jammer, “Lover.”

Of the new single, the band state: “‘Lover’ is the first song we wrote after we released our first album. This track is about being encompassed by the greatest and scariest feeling known to the universe. The beautiful and brutal truth of love is undeniable and intoxicating. The riffs serve as testament to our lust for life and pure sonic excess. Essence of Iommi and Fast Eddy envelope us, providing pure proof that love is real. As other songs on the album kick your ass, this one will have it shaking from sea to sea.”

Faerie Ring guitarist Kyle Hulgus elaborates: “Alex Kercheval is a genius. In the beginning of ‘Lover,’ we have a section that sounds like it’s coming through a radio… Well, Alex did this by broadcasting the raw tape tracks over AM radio, then recorded the radio, dialed it in, then bounced that through a series of outboard pre-amps for about 15 seconds. It was amazing.”

Weary Traveler tracklist:

1. Weary Traveler
2. Silver Man in the Sky
3. Never Rains at Midnite
4. Endless Color / Dope Purple
5. Lover
6. Motor Boss

Weary Traveler is a marked step forward in the band’s songwriting and recording processes. While their debut album (2019’s The Clearing) was an amalgam of massive riffs recorded in a friend’s basement, Weary Traveler delivers a coordinated and deliberate buffet of cohesive songs meticulously written by the band. Just as important, the album was professionally recorded at Postal Recording Studio in Indianapolis by Alex Kercheval, an essential part of the legendary rock band Coven. Under Kercheval’s guidance, the band recorded directly to tape and took numerous opportunities to experiment in the studio.
