Track Premiere: FVRMN – ‘Back to the Whip’

Fever Moon, or simply FVRMN, as the band are starting to be called, are the project of Jay Holmes, former frontman for The Ladderback who, though American-born, relocated to Tokyo in 2003. For the project’s fourth studio album Back to the Whip—out May 24 through Bifocal Media—which was essentially Holmes’ pandemic project, FVRMN give us something more energetic, big, and soaring than the typical introspective and unplugged style of most pandemic albums.

The record features appearances from the likes of Mike Watt (Minutemen, The Stooges, fIREHOSE), Chris Broach (Braid), Christian Madden (The Liam Gallagher Band), and Motoharu Fukada (ex-member of Japan’s Soil & “Pimp” Sessions). Back to the Whip was mixed by Dan Konapka (OK GO) and mastered at Chicago Mastering Service by Matthew Barnhart.

Today, FVRMN are debuting the first single off of Back to the Whip, the album’s blazing title track. With the dream-pop of early Blondie as a base and crunchy, fuzzy punk guitars on top of that, “Back to the Whip” has a rock edge tempered with a pop softness. Check out the single below.

You can preorder Back to the Whip from Bandcamp. Follow FVRMN on Facebook for future updates.
