Guck apparently formed in 2022 when guitarist Chappy Hull first moved to Los Angeles and needed a place to store his amp and, after meeting bassist Andrew Morrill and drummer Kyle Bray at a show, they offered to let him keep it in their practice space. Then when Sam Rogich met to give them the keys, Hull decided to form this foursome into a band. Adding April Gerloff as vocalist completed the quintet, and a noisy new band was born. Now they’re gearing up for the release of their debut album Gucked Up which was recorded at Cave Studio in Glassell Park in 2024.
Today, they’re debuting the single “Faith Hill Void,” a cacophony of barely organized noise led by Gerloff’s nasally, high pitched wail that evolves into a guttural growl, creating an experiment that’s deeply compelling and exciting. “I brought in the bones of this one with the guitar parts and structure,” explains Hull. “This is possibly the only song on this album we fully formed this way, although there were tweaks, we worked closely off of the initial idea. This is also one of Kyle’s favorite payoffs on the album.”
