Track Premiere: Gus Baldwin – ‘Depression’

Gus Baldwin

Gus Baldwin has been described as “a 20-something singer/songwriter/ex-hippie/part-time punk hailing from Austin, TX.” Pulling from a number of genres from 80s power-pop, to 60s psych, to 70s proto-punk, and 90s indie rock, Baldwin splits his time between solo work and his band The Sketch. His upcoming self-titled solo album, due out October 24 from Permanent Teeth Records, pulls together all of those different styles into one cohesive whole to create something that sounds wholly unique.

“Each song on the record is a different piece of me trying to figure out who I was and how the world was changing around me,” Baldwin says. “It’s a document of my early 20s.”

Today, Baldwin is debuting his new single “Depression” off his upcoming self-titled album. A taught, garage-punk style track with frenetic energy and distorted vocals, it’s an encapsulation of everything that makes rock music loud and noisy and fun. Check out the track below.
