Singer/songwriter/ex-hippie/part-time punk Gus Baldwin got his start as the drummer for Dallas surf-punk legends Sealion when he was in high school, then started the psych pop group Acid Carousel before departing the band on Halloween night in 2021. Now, he’s embarked on a new project, Gus Baldwin & The Sketch, playing fuzzed-out garage punk with a Texas attitude. The group’s full-length debut, The Sketch, is due out on January 31, 2025 on Permanent Teeth Records.
Today, Gus Baldwin & The Sketch are debuting their latest single off the upcoming album, “(She’s Gone) Arigato.” A noisy, fuzzy punk song with a distinct pop sensibility, this song is full of energy and anger while also managing to be a lot of fun.
“A song about our hometown going through its confusing adolescent phase as it tries to reinvent itself from a bohemian Mecca into a confused technological wasteland,” explains Baldwin. “For the younger generation of artists here, I think we’re scared of losing something we never got the chance to earn. So we’re starting over and turning a fresh page.”
