Track Premiere: Kill My Coquette – ‘The Metro’

What would make a successful model and actress pick up a guitar and start a rock band? For frontwoman Natalie Denise Sperl, it took just one Social Distortion concert.

Raised on the greats like Springsteen, Neil Young, Dylan, and Social Distortion, Sperl has always been influenced by angsty rock and punk. After teaching herself how to play guitar, she created a full band alongside Adam Smith (lead guitar) and Mike Evans (bass). Armed with attitude and panache, Kill My Coquette recorded their self-titled debut EP, written and arranged by Sperl, produced by Danny McGough (Tom Waits, Social Distortion, Shivaree) at Evelyn Martin Recordings.

While tipping their hat to game-changing artists like Jack White, Brody Dalle, Joan Jett, and The New York Dolls, Kill My Coquette have created a sound of their own.

Regulars on the Sunset Strip, Kill My Coquette have opened for bands like Off! and Bad Religion. Their punk-infused music video for Post Teenage Angst features rock legends Richie Ramone (The Ramones), Cherie Currie (The Runaways), and DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, who played the band on Los Angeles’s premiere rock radio station KROQ and continues to spin their songs upon his move to Sirius XM.

Outside of the music scene, Sperl appears as Greta Garbo in Mank and can be seen alongside Jackie Chan in Around the World in 80 Days, playing the titular character in the cult flick Succubus Hell Bent, co-starring in hit TV shows like Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, and CSI Miami, gracing the cover of Esquire, and starring in a Coors Light Superbowl commercial directed by Michael Bay.

She recently won the Best Supporting Actress Award from Flicks UK for her work in the film Bardo Blues. Despite her incredible, on-camera success, she claims that music is where she shines and shares her true message.

As to how the band defines their sound, they’ve offered the following understanding:

“I’d describe the bands sound with a cocktail: ‘The Coquette’: 1 shot Pop, 2 shots Rock with a splash of Alt juice. Add ice, shake and strain. Pour 151 proof punk rock on top. Light on fire. Enjoy!”
