Finding a unique place in music sitting somewhere between oi and power pop, Kong Kong are a group of hyper-talented simians hell-bent on taking over the punk world. Since 2020, they’ve released a powerful series of seven-inch EPs but, aside from a limited cassette release, their music has seen only minimal distribution outside of Europe. That changes now as TKO Records are assembling those EP releases into Gorilla Anthems – Collection: 2020-2025, alongside two brand-new, LP-only tracks.
Today, the band are premiering the track “Heroes Gone Were Never Heroes At All” off Gorilla Anthems, a hard-stomping punk track with a guttural, gorilla-esque growl all tied together with a gorgeous melody. “Skinheads, punks, subculture, and politics,” says Don K. Kong. “The lyrics on this one are supposed to mean something, whatever it may be. It has a good riff (stolen, of course) and a catchy little fucker of a melody. In our opinion, Mary Magdalene Kong puts the song over the top in the chorus and the coda. Throw rocks at false idols. A band favorite.”
