Combining epic melodic vocals with monolithic riffs and psychedelic leads, Portland, Oregon’s Master Splinter offer both a brand new take and a nostalgic dip into hard rock. Rather than produce straight-forward narratives, songwriters Mick Arrell and Jason Schauer instead weave epic tales with metaphorical characters. The band started in 2021 as the product of Mick Arrell, who had been thriving in international music scenes, returning to his home of Portland, Oregon. After meeting bassist Jason Schauer and drummer Mike Artinian in 2021, the trio founded Master Splinter.
Today they’re debuting their new single “Dragon’s Blood” off their upcoming self-titled album due out on September 20. An utterly epic track filled with thundering riffs, it features the fantastical glory of power metal blended with legendary narrative structure.
“Dragon’s Blood is completely meaningless as far as the words go,” says Arrell, “but it is meant to be a unifying anthem in a divided society. We can all come together and agree that this song is way too cheesy, but totally epic and badass as well. I can’t imagine anyone who would disagree, so come together and join hands to celebrate the drinking of the Dragon’s Blood!”
