Track Premiere: Middle-Aged Queers – ‘Glizzies Bangin”

Middle-Aged Queers

There’s a reason why Middle-Aged Queers have become one of the most renowned queercore punk bands since the early days of Pansy Division. A supergroup made up of former members of the Cost, Fang, the Insaints, and the Shondes, MAQ’s hyper-energetic live show, clever lyrics, and unapologetic stance on queer issues have won them their reputation as one of the best bands in the queer scene right now. And I say that as more than mere lip service, as I’m literally wearing my Middle-Aged Queers t-shirt right now with its pink-and-black image of the Golden Girls with the slogan “Go Fuck Yourself.”

Today, we’re proud to premiere their new single “Glizzies Bangin’,? the first single off their upcoming album Theater of Shame which will be out as a partnership between Sell the Heart Records and Engineer Records. With a pop-punk joviality that has rarely been seen on past Middle-Aged Queer tracks, the band demonstrate that they’re just as good at having fun and creating killer pop hooks as they are taking important political stances about queer rights.

“It started off at a show in Sacramento with a pair of friends in coordinated hot dog and mustard costumes, joined by a spattering of young people in clown makeup,” explains Shaun Osburn, aka Shauners, the band’s frontman. “A local tradition, perhaps? No. The phenomena followed us from coast to coast. And while the occasional banana or other food costume will make an appearance, a hot dog in the pit seems to be the most frequent sighting. We have no idea why. We prefer it to remain a mystery.”

The track is officially coming out on Thursday, but you can check it out right now below.
