Today, My Cousin’s Girlfriends House share another new song from their forthcoming EP, which sees release via Heading East Records on August 7.
With soaring three-part harmonies, an infectious live energy, and a personality that speaks for itself, My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House have cemented themselves as a uniquely powerful presence in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania music scene. Bridging the gap between Blink 182, Foo Fighters, Hot Mulligan, and Transit, the Philadelphia four-piece carry a familiar yet innovative feel in their songs.
Joining the roster at Heading East Records, MCGH are set to release their new EP, All For Love & All For Nothing, building on the band’s sound and energy established with singles “Tommy Huss,” and “House Into Home.”
According to the band, “’Frostbite’ is a pretty straightforward song that we had a ton of fun building into somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster. When we wrote this EP, we really wanted each song to display its own unique personality which complimented that of the others. ‘Frostbite’ entered the mix as a four-chord, high-energy, punk song that got injected with a little bit of everyone’s personal tastes to become a song with a number of different textures and mood changes. I think it’s a really cool reflection of how we can work together and combine our influences to convey our feelings with more depth.
“Speaking of conveying feelings, the song lyrically addresses exactly that. ‘Frostbite’ reflects on the cold, ruthless battles that many of us face with imposter syndrome and questioning our own self-worth. For a long time, I haven’t felt valid addressing the struggles I face behind closed doors because I tell myself ‘others have had it worse than me’ and ‘it’s not really that bad.’ With these distorted thoughts comes a great deal of questioning whether I am being the person I should be and performing at my highest potential. Sometimes it feels like I’m not dictating my own behavior and I’m acting as a shell of my former self, as I don’t feel I am smart, talented, charismatic enough, etc. to do what is best for me. In the end of the song, a firm commitment is made to take back what has been lost to these feelings, and I believe that I will in time return to being the fullest expression of myself. I encourage anyone dealing with similar struggles to challenge themselves to fight back, seek help, and communicate with those who love you. Your feelings are valid and so are you. Don’t let every season of your life feel like a long, dark winter.
“As always, working with the dream team on this song was- well, a dream. Matt Brasch (The Wonder Years) has never steered us wrong and always works his fingers to the bone to ensure we are getting the most out of our musical expression. This song was no different. It was amazing to be able to express ourselves with the guidance of someone is a very compassionate and caring person. It definitely made dealing with vulnerable topics on the EP feel much more valid and comfortable. Nick Steinborn (The Wonder Years) did a fantastic job adding all the necessary ear candy to this track to give it the raw emotional feel we were hoping to convey. This is the third single we are releasing off our coming EP All For Love & All For Nothing and we couldn’t be more grateful to Fred Mascherino and the gang at Heading East Records for taking a chance on us with these new songs. We’re very grateful and very excited for you to hear the full release on August 7!”
