Bicoastal indie-rock outfit Near Beer return with their first new music of the year. Twenty-twenty-two saw the release of the band’s debut self-titled album on Double Helix Records, while 2023 saw them releasing two new singles, “Slow Motion Pain” and “Forced Perspective,” their first new songs since expanding to a five-piece band. Today, they’re debuting their latest track, “Pax Americana,” which they’re surprise releasing through Double Helix Records.
“Since the band is spread out between California, New York, and Texas, we have to get creative about finding time to record,” explains singer, guitarist, and songwriter Joey Siara. “We had tracked some basic stuff during one day at Sunset Sound earlier in the year but then just sat on it. Finally, this summer, I got to house-sit for my buddy Dan Long, who’s got a nice recording set up at his place. So the band took advantage of the housesitting setup and got back to recording guitars and vocals on a bunch of tunes for the next record. What we didn’t finish at Dan’s we recorded bit by bit elsewhere ourselves. And this is one of the last songs we wrote for the record. Lots of happy accidents. So it goes with a record we’re recording ourselves. As for subject matter, this song is kind of about American history and the wheels coming off the bus.”
With its powerful emotional core and tongue-in-cheek moments, this is a song that’s bound to cut straight to the heart. It’s got moments of ’90s-style emo rawness that then explode into a big, guitar-heavy chorus. There’s no question, Near Beer are a band that you’re going to want to keep an eye on.
