Track Premiere: Negative Blast – ‘Mac Dawg’

Negative Blast

Born in San Diego in the height of the pandemic when Rainier Pesebre (vocals) and Alexander Jacobelli (guitar) started trading ideas to beat the loneliness of isolation, Negative Blast soon recruited bassist Patrick Callaway who had worked with Jacobelli in the early 2000s in bands such as Lewd Acts and Hour of the Wolf. After cycling through a few drummers over the years, the band settled into its current lineup with drummer Hunter Martinez, with the band now having shared stages with the likes of Botch, Unsane, Deaf Club, The Bled, Finch, Darkest Hour, Swing Kids, Clikatat Ikatowi, Lower Class Brats, The Bronx, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Loma Prieta, City of Caterpillar, High Vis, and 7 Seconds.

Today, Negative Blast are debuting their track Mac Dawg off their upcoming LP Destroy Myself for Fun, which is due out on November 14 from legendary noise label Three One G Records. With an extreme hardcore attitude, “Mac Dawg” is a blast of energy that will satisfy the most ardent of hardcore purists.

“MAC DAWG is one of those throwaway working titles that stuck,” explains Pesebre. “Lyrically, it’s about cutting your losses and moving forward on your own terms after being fucked over one too many times—even if you’re left stumbling, walking away is still a step in the right direction. Musically, it’s straightforward spit-and-scream hardcore that pays respect to 80s SoCal—Black Flag, Adolescents—with a near cult-like devotion to the 8th-note down strum: the way a power chord demands to be played.”
