Channelling the more avant-garde realms of thrash, black metal and hardcore, Richmond, Virginia’s Pyramid Mass are set to detonate a firebomb of thunderous, apocalyptic fury, on a darkly cinematic landscape, with latest EP Gargling Rot.
Of the forthcoming EP drummer/vocalist Matt Wild has the following to say: “Transmuting pollution and stress into sonic brutality. The idea of this release was to take the sound previously cultivated in (2023 album) Monolith and evolve into the realms of atmospheric turmoil.”
“Allowing more space to cultivate landscapes with complementary moods, both desolate and foreboding, in contrast with fierce adrenaline. Garnished with lyrics of corrupt societal structures failing, bringing pain and misery as consequence. The mind begs for a different reality but is only faced with Gargling Rot.”
Recorded by Kevin Bernsten (Full of Hell, Drugs of Faith, Pig Destroyer) at Developing Nations in Baltimore and mastered by Khanate’s James Plotkin (Sunn O))), ISIS), Gargling Rot will have a limited-cassette release via Ossien Records on March 18.
In the meantime, New Noise are delighted to be presenting the first track to be made public from the EP, with the premiere of “Prestige”—the avant-garde metal equivalent of an erupting volcano, spewing molten rock (before the track drifts into an unsettling, sci-fi ether). Batten down the hatches; keep your pets away from the windows, and check out the track below.
