Seattle’s only cowboy punk band Stetson Heat Seeker are sharing “This Is No Place For Cowards,” the title track from their upcoming album. The album will be released on September 4. It was recorded at Earwig Studios. Mixing and engineering were done by Don Farwell. Evan Easthope handled the mastering.

Katie Cassidy shares her thoughts:
“I felt inspired to write a feminist, riot grrl punk song, and Annie Oakley immediately came to mind. She toured with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in the late 1800s and was known for her incredible shooting accuracy and teaching women gun safety and self-defense.
I was listening to Bikini Kill, and Man or Astro Man? a lot at the time and really wanted to combine riot girl and surf rock elements. The songwriting process was very collaborative with the entire band, and led to the inclusion of a spoken word intro and our shouted breakdown. I wanted it to be similar to how riot grrrl bands have spoken word portions in songs.
I also wrote lyrics inspired by Annie’s real life trick shots she would do, for example shooting holes through a playing card or a cigar out of someone’s hand. The song is as if you could picture yourself at one of her shows watching her hit target after target.”
