Track Premiere: Strategies – ‘Morning Shore’

Strategies may have only formed in 2020, but it’s a band built on connections that go back about 20 years. The result of a long-distance collaboration between former members of the early-2000s Chicago punk and indie scene, Strategies is made up of Paul Lask (The Ghost, Tight Phantomz), Neil Hennessy (Lawrence Arms, Joyce Manor) and Brian Moss (Great Apes, Hanalei, The Ghost). The band released their first, self-titled EP in 2022 and now they’re back for more.

Today, Strategies are giving us an early listen of their upcoming single “Morning Shore” which hits streaming platforms this Friday, but you get to hear it right now. Full of arpeggiated riffs and irregular time signatures, the song has a certain midwest emo sensibility with echoes of post-rock that are anchored to an at least somewhat traditional song structure. It creates a dichotomy between the experimental and the grounded, creating something that’s somehow unusual and conventional at the same time. That and the melodies are absolutely gorgeous. Check out the track below.
