The electro-rock, performance-art-driven, spectacle that are STUNTDRIVER (often shortened to STDR) are gearing up for the release of the upcoming concept album SAGA, out September 24 on Rock Hand Records, and in that, are unveiling the new single “NITECREME” from the project.
STDR are led in a campy, fierce, and artistically dense performance by artist Kym Priess and often examine the relationship between light and dark. STDR are self described as a fusion between Siouxsie Sioux, Rocky Horror, and Peaches, “with a dash of NIN and a sprinkle of conceptual artist Cindy Sherman.”
The new track was written, produced, and engineer by Priess and sets the tone for the rest of the album’s electroclash, alternative dance tones. Fun fact: John Avila (OingoBoingo) engineered/produced/played on the rest of the record along with Swedish programmer Anton Söder.
The song also puts the character of The Influencer front-and-center, the “perfect virtual being, disguiser of flaws, beckons you with her theme song, ‘NITECREME.’ ‘Why work on your flaws when you can hide them?’ she says,” according to STDR. The concept is clearly critiquing social media culture, and STDR will have The Influencer, as part of the Dark Side, and her enemy as part of The Resistance, playing out their stories on the upcoming SAGA record.
The integral character to the upcoming project, The Influencer, is hosting the FLAW SHOW to celebrate the release of the new single, and SAGA is slated to be released later this year.
